What is a Medical Office Administrator?
Medical Office Administrators perform a variety of secretarial and administrative duties in doctor's offices, hospitals, medical clinics and other medical settings. As a Medical Office Administrator, you will be the first person to meet and greet patients and staff upon entering the clinic. You will be required to possess a friendly and welcoming attitude with excellent communication skills. Medical Office Administrators are responsible for a variety of administrative and clerical duties necessary to run an organization efficiently. You serve as basis of communication within the office, as well as plan and schedule meetings and appointments, organize and maintain documents and files, manage projects, conduct research, and provide information by use of telephone, email, and postal service.  
 
Working within a medical office, Medical Office Administrators may be required to transcribe dictation and assist physicians or medical staff with reports, and conference proceedings. Most medical office staffs need to be familiar with insurance rules, billing practices, and hospital or laboratory procedures according to their province.  
 
 
Program Objectives / Job Opportunities 
 
Our Medical Office Administrator Diploma Program emphasizes on the practical and theoretical subjects that will teach the students proper managerial skills necessary to work in a medical office. Subjects covered will include patient care and communication, requisition forms, insurance billing, patient documentation and confidentiality, scheduling appointments and meeting organization.  
 
Our students will also be introduced to the hospital setting by familiarizing themselves with the various departments of the hospital and its admissions processes.

All Students REQUIRE a minimum of 160 hours of Clinical Internship to successfully complete the program. Hours may vary depending on the particular location of placement. Students must submit a Police Check of Criminal Record and complete the First Aid/CPR Training before the start of the placement. Students may also be required to submit a health form upon the request of the practicum site.  
 
Admission Requirement: Be at least 18 years of age and pass the Wonderlic Test (a Superintendent approved qualifying test) with a score of 18 or higher. Students who are unsuccessful in the qualifying test will be allowed to attempt it a second time one (1) week, or later, after the date of the first test. Students who are unsuccessful in the second attempt may write take the qualifying test again three (3) months after the second attempt. Students who are unsuccessful in the third attempt must wait six (6) months between each subsequent writing of the qualifying test.
